Braced by Alyson Gerber

I love it. The author also wrote Focused. Rachel has scoliosis, but she thinks she’s almost done with it. Then her doctor delivers bad news: the curve in Rachel’s spine has gotten worse. Now she needs to wear a back brace twenty-three hours a day. The brace changes everything. Her friends see her differently, her clothes don’t fit the same way anymore, and now soccer is super hard. Rachel’s mom also had scoliosis, and she had to have surgery. Of course Rachel doesn’t want to have surgery, but she also doesn’t want to wear the brace. Rachel has to deal with the brace, soccer, friends, and boys. Most of the girls on her soccer team think it’s her fault that they lost a game. Her friends Hazel and Frannie keep telling her it’s not a big deal, but Rachel also thinks that they lost the game because of her. It’s a great book, and, in my opinion, everyone should read it.
