So, after reading some other reviews of this, I have mixed feelings. I thought it was a good book, but I am now noticing some things that weren’t the greatest. Anyway, time for the review. The book switches back and forth between before Jess’s girlfriend died, and after. Before: Jess has some problems. She’s constantly angry at everyone. She gets into fights all the time. Then she meets Vivi. Vivi helps her rein in her anger. Jess soon develops a huge crush on Vivi. Eventually, they start dating. Vivi’s obsession with birds leads Jess to start drawing them. So many birds. After: Jess has even more problems. Vivi just died because of a bad case of the flu, along with her asthma. Jess can’t draw anymore, because it reminds her of Vivi. She starts getting into fights again. But then she discovers a new art form that doesn’t make her heart hurt. She loses herself in it. And she starts to heal.
