This is not the best book ever. The writing was off in places, and the protagonist developed feelings for both love interests way too quickly. But yet, I flew through this book, and the rest of the series as well.
Set in a future where global warming killed the earth, making it unlivable, only a handful of humans survived. They live in a utopia called Eden, which is controlled by the EcoPan, a computer program designed hundreds of years ago to save humanity. But there are flaws in Eden. To control the size of the population, so as not to run out of resources, everyone is only allowed to have one child. That’s where Rowan comes in. Rowan has lived her entire life in secrecy solely because she was born a few minutes after her twin brother. One day, Rowan decides to escape. She sneaks out, and finds a crazy glittering world, and maybe even a friend. So she sneaks out again the next night. But it seems Rowan has been discovered somehow, and her world comes crashing down around her. On the run, Rowan finds a community unlike anything she could’ve dreamed. A community of second children. Could Rowan be the spark that the quiet, underground resistance needs?
