Cold The Night, Fast The Wolves by Meg Long

I really liked this book. It was super interesting (at least to me).
Sena lives on a planet covered in ice and snow, where electric storms run rampant, and crime lords rule. The only thing that makes it a popular tourist destination is the deadly sled race hosted every year, when the ice thaws just enough that an expensive ore can be mined. Dozens of teams race to the dig site, and not all of them make it there alive. The race claimed the lives of both of Sena’s mothers five years ago, and she refuses to have anything to do with it. But then she gets caught pick pocketing guests in the den of the most infamous local crime lord. He makes her a deal: heal his injured fighting wolf within a month, or he’ll force her to race. That, or he’ll kill her. Sena tries her best to heal the she-wolf, but it’s simply not possible in the time limit she’s been given. So she makes off with the wolf in tow, the crime lord hot on their tails. Her only chance for survival is to join the race with a team of scientists. But again, the race is deadly, and Sena might not make it to the dig site in one piece. Overall, I really liked this book.
