Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White

This…is an amazing book. It was maybe a bit too gory for me, specifically, but it’s still a very good book. Benji is on the run from the cult that unleashed Armageddon and practically destroyed the world’s population. The cult that raised him. The cult that told him over and over that he was a girl when he knew that wasn’t true. Benji has to make sure they don’t catch up to him, because they infected him with a bio weapon that is turning him into a monster named Seraph, and if the cult has control over Seraph, their rule over the world will be complete. Benji narrowly escapes the agents of the cult, soldiers called Angels, with the help of a group of queer kids who have holed up in the local LGBTQ+ center called the ALC. Benji can’t help but fall for the leader of the ALC, Nick, just a little. But Nick has his own agenda regarding Benji, and it might not be in Benji’s favor. Will Benji be able to harness the monster festering inside him to take down the cult once and for all, or will he be the death of the very people who took him in? I recommend searching for the content warnings of this book on the author’s website, as it’s a very heavy book. I really liked all the representation in this book, and I think the author definitely did a good job talking about all the different queer identities as well as Nick’s autism.
