Gilded by Marissa Meyer

This was great. Marissa Meyer is pretty much my favorite author. She wrote Cinder and Heartless, as well as some other books that I haven’t read just yet. Now, on to the review! Serilda was blessed—or cursed—before she was born with the power of lies and storytelling by the god of fate and fortune, Wyrdith. Serilda’s lies and stories have marked her as bad luck in her village, as well as her strange golden eyes. Then one full moon, her tall tales get her in trouble when she lies to the Erlking, the fierce and evil leader of the wild hunt that rides every full moon. The following month, Serilda is summoned by the Erlking, who now believes she has the ability to spin straw into gold. Trapped in a dungeon with nothing but a spinning wheel and piles of straw, Serilda fears she won’t survive the night. But then she meets the castle’s resident poltergeist, Gild, a friendly and mischievous spirit. Gild agrees to spin the straw into gold for her, but all magic comes with a price. The Erlking frees Serilda, believing she did what he asked. But then on the next full moon, she is called back to his castle. Gild helps her again. Over several months, Serilda is forced to return to the castle. Serilda discovers there’s a lot more to the wild hunt…and Gild’s story. There’s a three hundred year old curse, and it’s up to Serilda to break it. Very good book, in my opinion, however I like all of Marissa Meyer’s books. This is a dark book, though. I recommend looking up the content warnings before reading.
