The Romance Rivalry by Susan Lee

Hello everybody! I know it’s been a while, nearly two months I believe, but (hopefully) I’m back! I’ve been in a massive reading slump lately, but maybe I’ve resolved it! On to the book. This was really cute, and I enjoyed it. Irene is a super popular romance book reviewer. She adores reading romance and knows every trope like the back of her hand. The only problem, she’s having a bit of imposter syndrome because she’s never been in love in real life. She heads off to college feeling like a fraud. But then she comes up with a plan, alongside her amazing roommate/new best friend. Her plan is simple. She’ll find a boyfriend who will end up being the love of her life using romance tropes! Sounds easy enough, right? But someone throws a wrench in her plan when she discovers that her arch nemesis (AKA Aiden, a rival book reviewer) attends the same college as her, not to mention he’s in a lot of her classes as well. Aiden ends up discovering her plan, and he proposes that they both do it, and turn it into a competition as well. Whoever finds true love first wins. Irene is skeptical, but eventually agrees. As she and Aiden spend time together, both for schoolwork and their competition, she starts to realize that maybe she’s falling for the person she least expected. If you’ve read a romance book before, I’m sure you can guess who it is. Irene will have to get over her horrible self doubt if she wants a meaningful relationship, though. Anyway, I hope this was the kick in the butt I needed to finally escape my reading slump. Hope y’all enjoy it!
