Wow. Just wow. This book is amazing. It does have some really sad parts, some scary parts, and some gory parts. So if you can’t handle that…this probably isn’t the book for you. I have to admit, I cried. A lot. Katniss Everdeen is the only reason her mother and sister are alive. Her father died in a mine explosion years ago. Katniss hunts with her best friend, Gale, in the woods around District 12, even though it’s technically illegal. But it keeps them fed. The annual Hunger Games are coming up, and Katniss hopes with all her heart that she isn’t chosen. And she isn’t, but she ends up going anyway. She is locked in an arena with twenty-three other children—most of which want to kill her. Katniss faces deadly wasps called tracker-jackers, forest fires, hunger, and dehydration. Those all want to kill her, too. Can she find allies or just enemies? A great book, but not for sensitive readers.
