The Honeys by Ryan La Sala

This is a really atmospheric and mysterious read. Mars is the gender fluid child of a senator, and the rule is don’t make waves. Of course, his family thinks everything Mars does makes waves. Then Mars’s beloved sister Caroline returns from summer camp and tries to kill him, which instead ends in her horrific death. Mars decides to go to the summer camp that Caroline loved to see what made her lose her mind. Camp Aspen is a camp where the elite send their children off too, and where mysteries lie in broad daylight. Mars has traumatic memories of Aspen from years ago, and returning is like reliving those memories. Mars gets along with Wyatt, the nephew of the camps’ director while the rest of boys in his cabin ostracize him for his queerness. Mars starts investigating the Honeys, the beautiful girls of Cabin H, who were Caroline’s best friends. Mars knows the Honeys have something to do with her death, but his memories keep fading away. Will Mars survive his stay at Aspen? Complete with a slow burn queer romance, melting people, and lots of bees, this is a really good, spooky book.
