The Kinder Poison by Natalie Mae

This was so good! Zahru is normally content with working at her father’s stable, but her best friend Hen manages to convince her to sneak aboard a ship going the royal palace, for one night of wild partying. The gods have invoked The Crossing, a sometimes deadly race across the desert for the three heirs to the throne. Whichever heir reaches the end first and sacrifices a human life will be crowned king or queen. The aforementioned party is for the three heirs to choose their team that will help them across the desert. Zahru never volunteered to be on one of the teams, but somehow she ended up in the room with all the people who actually want to be on one of the teams. No reason to panic yet, there’s no way any of the heirs will choose her, a lowly Whisperer (someone with the magic ability to speak to animals). But she gets caught up in a years long feud between the oldest heir, Prince Kasta, and the middle heir, Prince Jet. Now Zahru is to be the sacrifice for the end of the crossing. Her one night of partying has gone horribly wrong.
My only problem was that the romance between Zahru and the main love interest was kind of insta-love.
